Ethics and Social Responsibility
Ethics and social responsibility intends to expand student understanding of the impact and value of individuals and how their choices affect society through collaboration with community organizations and group work. The following is a link to the University Studies Goals.
My understanding of the ethics and social responsibility goal is that it helps students reflect on their actions and the effects and results of those actions. I believe that this goal is trying to show students that there are long term effects that are not seen now, and it is important to be conscious of that, specifically pertaining to environmental destruction. Also, this goal is trying to teach the social responsibility we have as humans to accept and understand one another and open out minds to the world. Our actions reflect mankind and we have an ethical responsibility to fulfill.
The three assignments I chose for the ethics and social responsibility goal are Jensen journal #2, education paper and Jensen journal #3. I chose Jensen journal #2 because in it I focus on my stance and the stance of others on the environmental devestation happening in the world today. Ethics and social responsibility is a major factor when it comes to human interaction with this planet. Human action is what is effecting the planet so negatively and it is human responsibilty to fix the problems and reverse the effects.. I also chose to include my education paper. I chose it because I think that questioning the ways of school and the education system is a social responsibility. To better understand the ways of schooling and what they are being taught, students must question and contemplate the ways of the system and how they can be successful and earn a degree. Lastly, I chose to include Jensen journal #3. I chose this because the topic of my journal is literally about the loss of responsibility of humans. I describe a quote that emphasizes how the human race is denying responsibilty and not taking responsibilty for the destruction of the planet. We go by the saying out of sight out of mind and I describe that this cannot be the case. We must take ethical and social responsibilty for this earth.
